How to Overcome Anxiety in Sales

Sales is stressful. It doesn’t matter if you’re new to the game or a seasoned pro. Of course, there is a high-income potential, but that comes with deadlines, quotas, deals, the fear of rejection from potential clients, and a laundry list of other responsibilities with intricate nuisances.

So how do salespeople deal with this stress day-to-day? Are they superhuman? Possibly. The more likely answer is that they’ve found a few methods to help them overcome their anxieties to become better at what they do. That’s why we’ve put together a list of tips to help you begin or continue your journey in sales. These are the things that have worked best for the members of our team.

Managing Stress

Taking Time for You

Yes, you have deadlines and quotas, but if you’re all nerves, your performance will suffer. It’s more important to take the time you need to get back to a healthy state of mind. The top activities that were mentioned by our sales team are:

• 15-min Exercise Routine

• Meditation

• Watch a Video/Show (typically comedies work best)

• Accomplish different tasks to maintain a positive attitude

• Reading

Eating Well

Being human means being a big bag of chemicals. It’s no wonder that you feel bad when you eat poorly. The best thing you can do for yourself is to eat a well-balanced breakfast and continue to eat healthy snacks throughout the day. It’s best to plan your meals for the week that way you’re less tempted to buy junk food continuously.

Caffeine and alcohol are also things you should try to avoid. You might think you need caffeine to get through the day, but it does increase your heart rate, so if you’re anxious, the combination is pretty bad for your health. You’d be surprised how much more energy you have after a simple 15-minute workout instead. Part of sales is hustling so take a lap around the building, use the stairs instead of the elevator, do some pushups, anything you need. The best part of being in sales is the freedom to do these things without any micromanagement.

Stay Organized

Typically, if you’ve been in sales for a while, you know your routine, and you don’t want to change anything about it. However, there are always new ways to become more organized and efficient at what you do. Always keep in mind new apps or devices that could help you improve productivity. There’s always something new!

Change Your Mentality

Negativity is the death of a good salesperson. It’s important to note that not everything is in your control. If you’re having a bad week, remember it’s going to happen, and it won’t be the last time either. Try not to get too worked up about it and focus on the things you can control.

Routine can also be pretty hazardous to your state of mind. We highly recommend trying to break the monotony of your day by trying new things, like trying out a new pitch or going somewhere new for lunch.
